Optx beat Mint in Playoff Finals

Posted by: xilef

Tonight London Mint will face their final test to qualify for the world finals, where they will go head to head against the winner of the US playoffs. The winner of this match will be the 8th and final team to gain a spot in the finals, where they will face all the best teams in the world.

Mint’s opponent is yet to be decided however, and will be the winner of 3D New York vs. San Francisco Optx.

CS:Source - juan, Method, n0it, Ksharp, Volcano
Forza - ComeBackDan, Dark-Storm
Dead Or Alive 4 - Chepelle, Coolsvilla
FIFA - Wizakor

3D come into the playoffs with a regular season record of 10-2. Despite getting off to a great start early on, they have been a bit inconsistent recently, incurring a loss to both coL and Core in regular season, and a further loss to Core in the first round of playoffs. Their CS:Source team is their major strength, while their DoA male arguably being their weakness.

CS:Source - mOE, Clown, Warmach1ne, grt, Paradox
Forza - Miximup, Sackamonjaro
Dead Or Alive 4 - NinjaCW, Vanessa
FIFA - Stermy

Optx have had a somewhat disappointing season. Despite having some immensely talented players, they come into this a regular season record of only 7-5. Last season Vanessa was the driving force behind their success, and even though she is still the top DoA Female player, she isn't bringing home as big a point difference as she used to, and has lost twice to Phoenix. Their CSS team and Forza team are their biggest weaknesses this year, both with a 4-8 record in regular season.

The winner of this match will, as mentioned before, face London Mint head to head in the playoff finals.

CS:Source - Hughsy, HenryG, ritch, HudzG, url
Forza - Stune, nt_101
Dead Or Alive 4 - Paddaman, Strobe
FIFA - ChrisyB

The regular season was a bit shorter in Region 3, with a straight elimination of only two games. First game Mint looked very shaky as they went against Birmingham Salvo. However, a few Mint players had no stage experience, and once they got their heads around it they performed superbly against Stockholm Magnetik in the next match, finishing 3rd in Region 3. Will they be able to stop the Americans, and progress to the world finals though?

This match will take place at 9PM BST (British Summer Time), and will be followed shortly after by the Mint match. We will be providing a SrcTV ip if available, as well as updating scores as soon as they become available. Best of luck to all teams involved.

Update:

San Francisco Optx won against 3D New York with a final match score of 23-17. This means Mint will be facing them in the playoff finals in a matter of minutes.

The running order is as follows : DoA Female, Forza, FIFA, Counter-Strike: Source, DoA Male.

First up was Strobe, who managed to exchange rounds for a while, only to be defeated 5-2 in the end by Vanessa, the #1 DoA-F player in Region 1.

This was followed by the Forza partnerships, where Miximup managed to take the win, shortly followed by nt_101. Stune unfortunately finished last, after being spun out by Sackamanjaro in the final lap.

Next up ChrisyB went against Stermy. 0-0 after the final whistle, it went to penalties. ChrisyB saved the first penalty, and after that it was straight goals, giving ChrisyB a 3-2 win and narrowing the gap going into CS:Source.

The CS:Source was the 4th game, and Mint got off to a great start, winning the first half 7-2. Second half they lost 6-3, making the final CS:Source score 10-8 in Mint's favour.

Going into DoA M, Paddaman needs to win 5-1 for the win or 5-2 for the draw to take it to overtime.

Update:

Argh! It really came down to the wire, but Optx took it at the final hurdle. Paddaman needed to win 5-1 to go through, and he was up 4-1, but then NinjaCW had an amazing comeback and won it 5-4. Amazing game, and all of Mint played fantastically.

Congratulations to Optx, and best of luck in the World Finals!

WP everyone

Everyone expected a blow out, and i think we proved to the whole world today that the Mint team in the real deal.

The fact that winning was in touching distance is great and i think we can go out feeling proud.

Optx can count themselves very lucky today, as i think they know it could of gone either way.
